Bikepacking, Solitude and Sweetcorn. with Emma Cole
Could you travel over 2000 kilometres (1200 miles) from England to Tunisia, Africa, on your own, on a bicycle? Well that’s only what this week’s adventure driven guest went and did. Emma Cole talks Tom through her latest solo expedition and what an adventure like this one really does for the soul. This is a grounding conversation between two avid adventurers, talking over the life changing benefits and well needed pitfalls of taking that initial leap to step out of your comfort zone, and how it really is one of the greatest moves we can make. Emma’s love for her bicycle, a deeper understanding of independence, and the beauty of unexpected human kindness culminate in a nostalgic reflection of becoming comfortable with yourself, even in uncomfortable situations.
Emma worked as a features writer for everything double wheeled at Cyclist magazine before only this month pedalling into her own freelance journey. Yes Emma! Championing a more sustainable future and getting people to experience adventure and sport is what drives this woman. She has mentored in Kazakhstan and the USA, and set up a volunteering programme for a rural non-profit organisation in Morocco. Emma has taught languages, sports, coached, and mentored. She’s been a reporter, had her own podcast, co-hosted a podcast for Cyclist, as well as taking on a mountain load of trails, runs, hikes, cycles, you name it. What's next on the adventure list? Or actually, as Emma and Tom discuss, let's alleviate that pressure of what's next, and just go with the flow.
